When I started my blog I intended to focus on books that deal with the lives of reading centered people. THE UNCOMMON READER, Alan Bennett. Luckily, Alan Bennett's deliciously short The Uncommon Reader was almost next on my British shelf and its 119 pages meant that I finished it just before I finally drifted off to sleep. The Uncommon Reader was one of my favorite books read last year. Synopsis: When the Queen in pursuit of her wandering corgis stumbles upon a mobile library she feels duty bound to borrow a book. The Uncommon Reader Written by: Alan Bennett Published: 2007. I read it when it was first published and this is a gift copy but I couldn't resist it and re-read the whole thing last night. I'm holding out hope that SMUT is better. Yeah, I read The Uncommon Reader in the previous Read-a-Thon and was underwhelmed. The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett (1934, UK) has been on my TBR list ever since I first heard of it last year. I enjoyed every minute, and I know I'll come back to it time and time again. (finished reading on 26/03/2012). I went on to listen to Bennett read his The Clothes They Stood Up In – also wonderful, but totally different. For an excessively slim and light hearted volume, The Uncommon Reader leaves you with much to ponder on. What would happen if the Queen became a reader of taste and discernment rather than of Dick Francis? The Uncommon Reader arrived yesterday.
